Boy Patiently Waits For Mountain To Erupt

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Bellingham, WA – Local boy, twelve year old Logan Smythe, can’t wait any longer. “I’m just waiting for this mountain to blow up. It’s taking too long.”

After visiting Mt. St. Helens this summer, Logan thought it’d be cool to personally witness Mt. Baker blowing up. “When my dad was ten years old, in the olden days of the 1980s, he said he heard the loud boom of St. Helens all the way up here in Bellingham,” said Logan. “But I want to actually see it erupt, not just hear some lame sonic boom or whatever. I want to post the video on YouTube so I can get a million views and become a famous YouTuber.”

Everyday after school, Logan makes his parents drive two hours and hike a 15 mile trail that has a great view of the mountain. “He’s really insistent that we do this everyday until it blows,” said Logan’s mom, Judy. “I said it might take another few hundred years, but he doesn’t care. He just sits there, patiently waiting. So proud of him. My glutes really hurt, though.”

Logan’s dad, Larry, is proud, too. “We have to drive here and climb this trail everyday. We’ve been doing this for months now, and I’m tired. If it does blow, I hope we don’t die, but we probably would and I’m perfectly fine perishing so he can get that one million views on YouTube,” said Larry. “We’d do anything for our little guy, even if we all violently die from the heat blast, a toxic ash cloud and trees crushing us like ants. We’d have quite the story to tell in heaven. No boring death stories for us.”

When asked how much longer he can keep this up, Logan wasn’t daunted. “For the winter months we just bought snowshoes and cross-country skis, so we’re ready. But in just a few years I’ll be able to drive up here myself as my parents are very old and decrepit and probably won’t make it too much longer,” said Logan. “Anything for YouTube.”
