Seattle, WA – Regional favorite song “Christmas in the Northwest” has been voted as the worst Christmas song of the year. “As soon as I hear it come on the radio, I immediately change the station,” stated Jim Smallweed of Portland, OR. “It’s pretty serious.”
When asked why he dislikes it so much, Smallweed says it sounds “sickly sweet”. “You know, like when you’ve eaten too much candy corn at Halloween? It seems kind of nice at first, but quickly makes your teeth hurt. This song makes my head hurt. It should be banned, at least here in the PRP, the People’s Republic of Portland.“
Not everybody agrees with Smallweed. Lorna Davis of Ritzville, WA loves the song. “I play it at least 24 times a day during the Christmas season, which for us starts the day before Halloween and goes until the first day of Spring. Plus it’s Christmas in July, too. I can’t get enough of it and neither can my 43 cats. My husband adores it. We all love it!”
Davis’s husband, Ken, when asked why he loved it so much was unable to speak. “He loves it so much he usually doesn’t talk during the entire Christmas season,” Lorna said. “He just sits there in his La-Z-Boy and listens to it with me and the kittens over and over and over again. It’s great! I haven’t seen my kids at Christmas in ten years for some reason.”
The song was released in 1985 by artist Brenda Kutz White. When asked for comment about it being the worst Christmas song of the year, she mentioned she’s probably sung it over two million times, but people need to just get over it. “I made this song to help kids at Seattle Children’s Hospital. If you don’t like it, turn the station. Buy it on Amazon now and do some good work for the kids, you snowflakes. Merry Christmas!”
