Study: 100% Of Idaho Citizens Go To Bed Before 10pm New Year’s Eve

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Boise, ID – A new study by the New Year’s Eve Commission (NYEC) has found that 100% of Idaho citizens go to bed by 10pm on New Year’s Eve. “We are shocked to the core,” said NYEC spokesperson Nancy Clairmont. “We had no idea.”

The study conducted last year interviewed 3,000 people from across the state. While the average bedtime was 10pm, in some places it was much earlier. “We found that people living in Adams County were in bed by 8:30 on average,” said Clairmont. “They’re really sleepy there, apparently.”

The Sasquatch Sun interviewed Alice McClane, 89, of Council and asked her what her thoughts are on the study. “I think it’s accurate. Most folks are in bed by 8pm on most nights. But come New Year’s Eve, I see a few people hanging out at that pizza place until really late, around 8:30. In 1999 I saw a couple up until 9pm. I do tape the ball going down in New York on my VCR and watch it the next morning when I eat dinner at 3:30. But that’s pretty much it,” said McClane.

Justin Barner, 21, attends the University of Idaho in Moscow. When he heard that the study found Latah County citizens went to bed by 10:30, he said, “I guess that makes sense since there are a lot of college kids around here. But, yeah, 10:30 is getting pretty late. After we watch the ball go down live in New York on YouTube there just isn’t anything else to do. That’s pretty much it,” said Barner.

Clairmont and the NYEC will investigate this phenomenon in the coming years. “The United States as a whole sees everyone on average going to bed at 5am on New Year’s Day, even in Utah. Throw Idaho out of the mix and it would be 5:30am. We need to figure out what’s going on in this strange state,” said Clairmont.
